This life that you are trying to lead is completely man made, you have been told how to live, what society deems acceptable, what religious thoughts to have with regard to the religion you have been bought up in, what's good behaviour –v- bad. What constitutes a good parent, partner, citizen, neighbour. There are rules, rules, rules, but where are the 'rules' that get you to learn to focus on the spiritual part of yourself?
These RULES of how we are supposed to function are causing us to go against the very nature of what it means to be a human being, because part of what makes us human is our soul, our spirit. Our inner sense of wisdom about who we are.
We are trying to be something that we're not, and this is where the rub is coming. We have tried to deny the part of us, that spiritual inner knowing that we all possess, that voice of intuition, because we are afraid of how it will be perceived. Whilst we all experience it and know about it if someone declares openly that they rely on it, and that it's real then they are considered weird or may be a little crazy or 'one of them', not a fully paid up member of a functioning society.
But to think otherwise is actually not being a fully functioning human being. We are disconnected and lost when we deny who we truly are, which is a spiritual being as much as a physical, emotional and logical being, and until we fully acknowledge and integrate that part of ourselves into who we are and how we function we are going to keep hitting wall after wall in our journey through this life.
If we keep pretending that this part of us doesn't exist then these feelings of loneliness, isolation, lack, less than that are endemic in the majority of society today, will not leave us because these feelings aren't describing something from the physical that is missing, property, the right partner, the right job what we are missing and longing for is ourselves that part of our self that is knowing and connected to us, the Universe, God and every other living thing everywhere. A connection that big could and will never be filled by material things or another person.
The irony is that as soon as we acknowledge that and start to bring that other part of ourselves back online so to speak as it was always meant to be and we then integrate that part of ourselves the external also starts to change and all that we felt was may be missing starts to become available. We become more appealing to be with because we're happier, less needy, we're more fun to be with, we do our jobs better which means we have a better chance of earning more money for those material things that we do fancy acquiring, but even then what we actually start to acquire is different because we no longer 'NEED' them they are purely there for fun or to give us an experience.
